IBS Pain Relief – Irritable Bowel Syndrome And Diet

IBS Pain? Meet IBS Relief.

Irritable bowel syndrome, otherwise known as IBS is a condition that affects the large intestines.  There is no known cause of the disease, and detection is not simple.  Most people who have been diagnosed with IBS suffer from severe cases of diarrhea, constipation or both.  In addition to those, they may experience abdominal pain, cramping or any type of abdominal discomfort.  Often severe gas and bloating are a part of IBS.  Some people will experience all of these symptoms and others may only experience a few.


Unfortunately, there is not a known cure for the disease, but there are things that can be done to minimize the pain and discomfort and make living with the condition more bearable.  There are little things that can be done to alleviate some of the discomfort, and while these efforts may not cure the symptoms, they can reduce much of the unpleasant physical pains that accommodate IBS.

Reducing the amount of stress in your life has been proven effective in alleviating some of the pain.  Stressed is the culprit of many different ailments and it is also something that enhances these ailments and IBS is one of them.  Reducing the amount of stress in your life will help curb some of the symptoms.

Another way to minimize the symptoms of IBS is exercise.  Exercising has been proven to help keep a fit colon.  When the colon is fit, there seems to be fewer problems including IBS.  Although IBS has not been linked to permanently damaging the colon, or any cancers, keeping the colon fit and clean will only be advantageous for those who suffer from IBS.

Try to avoid dairy products.  Unfortunately, dairy products provide a lot of calcium that is needed in our daily diet, so eliminating dairy products completely is not recommended.  Many IBS sufferers find that yogurt is easier to process.  If you are cutting back on dairy products, then calcium supplements should be taken.

Incorporate foods that are rich in fiber, whole grains, fruits and breads.  Fiber reduces colonic spasms that can result in many of the symptoms of IBS.  And although you are incorporating these foods, try to avoid large meals.

Avoiding chocolate, caffeine, and alcohol will also minimize the likelihood of symptoms.  Unfortunately, these are life’s pleasures, but the unpleasantness of the symptoms of IBS can probably make avoiding these much easier.  Juices and acidic products should be avoided as well.  In addition to these, minimizing the intake of medications is also going to minimize the IBS symptoms.

As of today, there is no cure for the discomforting disease, but doing the things that can minimize the disorder can provide relief from the symptoms and the pain and make living with IBS more bearable.
